Christian Schad
Two Girls, 1928
private collection
Sandrine arrived at the restaurant for her regular Wednesday night shift.
On her way in, the manager informed her that she had received a letter. She wondered who could have sent her a letter. Both her parents have died in a fatal car accident when she was nine years old in Belgium and since her arrival to the United States she had no communication with the remaining members of her family.
The envelope was white with a blue - red border. Inside there was a postcard from NEUE GALERIE in New York featuring Christian Schad’s Two Girls oil on canvas painting. In the back there was a note with a red marker saying:
I will come pick you up after your shift.
Wait for me in the corner of Laffayette and Bond Street.
Yours,
Charles Lourelien
